The Tale of Aamsveen is a horror game developed by some of my colleagues and I as a university project. This game is based on a plethora of myths and folklore of the Twente region of the Netherlands. You play the role of a parent whose child wandered into the Aamsveen swamp at night, and knowing the dangers that entails, you tred through the spooky, muddy environment to try and find them.
.
The environment was a huge part of this project, since it sets the tone and atmosphere of the experience, and is crucial to nail for a horror game. I went to countless iterations both with my team and our overseeing teachers, especially with the vegetation that needed a lot of tweaking to get the vibes just right. I had a clear vision in mind for what the landscape would look like, so I was excited to try my best in achieving it.
.
This was our first time working on a project of this scale and my first time using SpeedTree to begin with. We all encountered a lot of challenges throughout but we are proud of our final product all things considered. The game can be downloaded here: https://m-nechepurenko.itch.io/tales-of-aamsveen
